Today they are launching and selling the Google Nexus One, months after the
very popular Motorola Droid came to market as the first Android-based phone available on the Verizon network.

Google wants to compete but has not added any cool options to the Nexus One to change the smartphone industry. Apparently for Google, the objective is to use the Nexus One as a showcase for the Android platform’s potential and to prioritize cutting-edge hardware and software.

The difference between these 2 smartphone is first of all the processors The Nexus have faster processors than the Droid which utilizes Texas Instruments’ TI OMAP 3430 processor running at 600MHz. The Nexus One is powered by the Snapdragon 1 GHz core processor.

O’Brien. already fully owns Digicel’s Caribbean and Pacific operations.

On Monday, Digicel Limited, a Bermuda-incorporated company owned by O’Brien, announced its intention to float a US$435 million note, of which US$260 million would be used to acquire a 40 per cent stake in DHCAL.

Last May, the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation in its disclosure on a proposed investment in a US$400-million project to build and operate a greenfield mobile cellular telephone network in Honduras – that was implemented by Digicel Honduras SA de CV (Digicel Honduras), a company wholly owned by DHCAL – stated that O’Brien owned a majority stake in DHCAL.

O’Brien already fully owns Digicel’s Caribbean and Pacific operations.
The Irishman had in the past raised funds through debt to buy back shares in Digicel’s Jamaican operations, making him sole owner.

In 2007, O’Brien had raised $1.4 billion through an issue by Digicel Group Limited as part of an ownership-restructuring plan. He used the proceeds from the bond issue to buy out 100 per cent of Digicel Limited’s common equity and placed the shares under Digicel Group Limited.

The Digicel store in New Kingston when it was being refurbished.

Fitch Ratings gave the latest note being issued by Digicel a favourable rating. The note would become due in 2014.
“Digicel’s ratings are supported by a historically strong operating performance, its position as the leading provider of wireless services in the Caribbean (including strong market positions in Jamaica, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago), strong brand recognition, and an increasingly diversified revenue and cash flow stream across the Caribbean,” said Fitch’s report. “The ratings also incorporates lower capital expenditure requirements over the next few years and management initiatives of cost controls in the face of the global economic environment.”

Going forward Fitch expects capital expenditures to decline and stabilise over the next few years, resulting in positive free cash flow which should be used to pay debt maturities as they amortise.

Digicel’s total debt has grown rapidly in the past few years as a result of acquisitions, necessary funding for the rapid build out of new markets and the 2007 US$1.4 billion recapitalisation.

“Proforma the new issuance and considering debt as of December 31, 2008, total consolidated debt at DGL should approximate to US$3.3 billion,” said the Fitch report.

Digicel also mitigates currency risk by generating most – 66 per cent – of its revenues in US dollars, Euros or pegged to these currencies.

For the 12 months ended December 31, 2008, Digicel’s consolidated revenues and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation were approximately US$1,735 million and US$661 million, respectively, and total subscribers amounted to approximately 7.1 million.

Digicel operates in 24 markets in the Caribbean including Jamaica, St Lucia, St Vincent, Aruba, Grenada, Barbados, Cayman, Curacao, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Trinidad & Tobago and Haiti among others, as well as El Salvador.
Digicel’s operating assets are owned by operating subsidiaries of DIFL, which in turn is a subsidiary controlled by DL. DL is a wholly owned subsidiary of DGL, an entity owned by O’Brien. In addition to Digicel, O’Brien owns Digicel Central America and Digicel South Pacific.

At the end of the transaction, DL will own 40 per cent in DHCAL along with O’Brien’s majority stake in the entity.

SIM is a combination of three vertical industry sectors; Signage, Imaging & Media under one roof providing you with the largest platform to meet regional decision makers. Focus sectors of SIM include digital printing, signage, digital imaging, image capture, storage and processing, digital media, outdoor media, new media and entertainment.

SIM 09 will be held in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi from 18-20 October 2009 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Abu Dhabi – the region’s new MEDIA HUB
Abu Dhabi is determined to turn itself fast into a centre for media and entertainment and ADNEC situated in the region’s new media hub is the perfect venue to host SIM.

Steady economic growth with both a positive and solid future outlook has increased the importance of Abu Dhabi as a meeting place more than ever. Most of the SIM 08 exhibitors reported meeting a strong number of first-time customers and generated increased sales volumes specifically from Abu Dhabi and the wider region.

By Reginald Baillly – Since 2006, CNET has presented the Best of CES Awards, given to the top product in 10 categories as well as one coveted Best in Show award. This year, The Palm Pre smartphone took home high honors and became the first cell phone/smartphone to win the Best in Show.

In Car Tech category, Gracenote puts a star in your car. Imagine having your favorite recording artist talking to you from your dashboard, recommending new music that you might like. Now imagine the music available to you in your car extending to just about every track ever recorded. Let’s take it a step further and say you can use your car stereo like an instant messenger, where you can recommend songs and playlists to people on your buddy list. Very Cool…!

For Computer & Hardware, The Sony P-series Lifestyle PC aimed at mid-to-high-end buyers we’ve reviewed fairly favorably. Where as in the Digital Photo & Video category, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-G3 got high mark for the 10-megapixel, 4X zoom G3 includes 4GB of storage and a 210ppi 3.5-inch touch-screen display with Wi-Fi connectivity that allows you to wirelessly upload photos and video and deliver e-mail notifications.

For Gaming the winner is The Wand – a high-tech Wii remote alternative by Nyko In an effort to trump the existing Nintendo Wii remote controller.
GPS TomTom reveals its first connected portable navigation device -
the TomTom GO 740 Live. Like the Dash Express and TeleNav Shotgun, the GO 740 Live is a connected GPS using a built-in SIM card and GPRS modem, so you’ll get more up-to-date information delivered to your PND right over the air.

In Home Audio the HT-BD7200: 2.1 Blu-ray home theater from Samsung is the choice for 2009 which gets a Blu-ray upgrade (replete with BD-Live capability and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding) and support for streaming Netflix online video and the Pandora music service. It’s also Wi-Fi-ready, but you’ll need to invest in a separate USB 802.11n dongle, or stick with wired Ethernet connectivity instead.

In Home Video – EchoStar SlingLoaded HD DVR 922 combines Slingbox and DVR into one super set-top box which lets you access your home TV from any broadband-connected PC and many models of 3G smartphones.

in MP3 & Video Players Samsung unveils the P3 touch-screen MP3 player. As an update to Samsung’s popular P2, the P3 shares many of its predecessor’s features, including a 3-inch WQVGA touch screen, DNSe sound enhancement, audio and video playback, photo viewer, FM radio, voice recording, and Bluetooth capabilities such as phone pairing and stereo audio streaming. Unlike the P2, the Samsung P3 uses a colorful new user interface dubbed “EmoTure” that emphasizes personalization.

In Televisions, for 2009 Panasonic has included THX in two series of plasma TVs, of which the most-affordable will be the G10s. The company’s G10 series of plasmas comes in four screen sizes. The 42-inch TC-P42G10, the 46-inch TC-P46G10, and the 50-inch TC-P50G10 will ship in March, while the 54-inch TC-54G10, a new screen size for the company, will ship in May.

That’s one fewer device for Sprint /Clearwire subscribers to use on the Clear WiMax network which were just getting off the ground in the United States and Nokia goes and cancels its WiMax device.

When questioned the company, their response is a flat: “The Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition has reached the expected end of its life cycle. We will continue to follow the WiMax network development and new product decisions will be considered based on the evolution of the business.”

Those watching the evolution of the N810 WiMax Edition find it interesting that Edition reached end-of-life status on a day after Clearwire expands its WiMax network in the U.S.

This leaves behind WiMax subscribers in the U.S. with fewer options of usage on the network. Not that the network is vast and widespread. It is still in just two markets.

Nokia didn’t pronounce a word about other plans for its Internet Tablet devices and what their next intentions are.
